Sian Ka'an - Mar 17, 2007 update

Dive Team: Fred & Chris

Surface support: Global Vision International

Dive site

Name: Entrada Boca Paila

Conditions: The boil was barely visible from the surface. The water in the lagoon was murky. Wind was blowing from the East. The flow picked up in the shaft but without its normal intensity. Visibility in the cave in the FW lens was 50ft. The vis in the SW was 4ft.

Dive Objectives:

  1. Explore the end of the upstream line
  2. Remove last remaining T on ML
Summary of results:
  1. Explored the cave going W/NW then SW again. Another 2,100ft of line laid.
  2. Removed T ok.
Possible follow up:
  1. The end of the line is wide open with big W lead and obvious flow due to numerous ripples on halocline.
  2. A few NW leads to check on this line.
  3. There’s a need to investigate further the area where the poliprop. line was discovered.

Comments/observation: The cave does not run NW. NW heading means smaller conduits and lack of flow. There are numerous big domes. The vis. in the SW has improved after the initial 4k. The team noticed a polyprop. line just passed SM # 103. This is perhaps coming from another entrance? This is already a long way in for it to be transported from main entrance.
