Conditions: The water clarity in the Yax Chen basin was exceptionally clear. The water condition in the downstream part of the cave was fair. Flow was noticeable. The downstream is heading NE/E in parallel with the coast line. There’s a fair amount of organic particles in suspension throughout the water column.

Summary of results:
  1. Set-up dive went well.
Comments/Observations:
  • The silty area leading to Cenote Rojo needs to be navigated with great care especially when carrying multiple stages.

  1. Check lines further downstream and continue exploration toward OBH.
Summary of results:
  1. Laid 382ft of line in a passage running back to ML.
Possible follow up:
  1. There is obviously more cave to explore in this side of the cave. Entering Cenote Perla on the OBH side would increase the chance of a possible connection.
Comments/observation: Cenote “Rojo” had only a light touch of tannic water at the surface. The cave changes substantially as soon as it runs NW again.

Summary of results:
  1. Checked SM #133 & #135… no go
  2. The team went back to the end of a line laid by David & Chris (line name: Fudge) and added 700ft of line.
Possible follow up:
  1. There are several more leads to check in this area.
Comments/observation: The area is complex and it will take time to check through fully the many leads. Base camp from Cenote Gemini in the near future will help in reducing the complex logistics. Visibility can be challenging sometimes.
