Dive Team: Danny & Chris

Surface support: Alex Alvarez

Dive site

Name: Yax Chen
Coordinate: WGS84 UTM 451245 2226084

Conditions: The water clarity in the Yax Chen basin was exceptionally clear. The water condition in the downstream part of the cave was fair. Flow was noticeable. The downstream is heading NE/E in parallel with the coast line. There’s a fair amount of organic particles in suspension throughout the water column.

Dive Objectives:

  1. The team wants to continue the previous day’s exploration. The cave is running NW in a small area.
Summary of results:
  1. First line laid at the end of previous line became v tight after only 250ft. Danny followed an organic slope down to 45 ft with no success. Line name : Organic
  2. Off the Organic Line another small conduit was explored running NW. The end is still open with little flow.
  3. Another section of cave was explored off Gary Walten’s original line. This is a shallow section of cave ending in a breakdown area. The cave was heading SE to start with but turned to the NE at the end.
Possible follow up:
  1. The small area with flow needs to be checked again. The cave is heading from that point in an interesting area.

Dive Objectives:
  1. Recon of lines starting right at Chupa 3
Summary of results:
  1. Checked out all NW leads off SM # Salty dog
Possible follow up:
  1. This is a complex area of caves that needs to be re-checked for possible leads going back N/NE towards OBH.
  2. Entering Cenote Perla on the OBH side may be more appropriate to further the exploration on this side of the cave.

Comments/observation: There are large under-cuts in the bottom floor in an otherwise wide passage. This is likely to be the area of cave connecting OBH to Yax Chen East.
